Pure One advances Project Venus to gas testing phase

Pure One has advanced its Project Venus gas initiative to the next stage of appraisal, with the Venus-2H horizontal well intersecting 445 meters of interpreted net target coal and showing gas readings of up to 42.3%. Preparations are underway for dewatering and flow testing of the integrated Venus-2H and Venus-1 wells. This marks a significant milestone in the project’s development, as it transitions from drilling to testing phases, which are critical for assessing commercial viability.
The company’s 69.4%-owned subsidiary, Eastern Gas (ASX:EGA), completed drilling in Queensland’s Surat Basin late last month, with the final equipment leaving the site on September 1.
Integrated well system for testing
The Venus-2H well was designed to intersect with the vertical Venus-1 well, creating an integrated production pilot to generate reservoir performance data under controlled conditions. This design allows for a full evaluation of the reservoir’s behavior, which is essential for future development decisions.

Eastern Gas will now prepare the integrated Venus-2H/Venus-1 well system for testing, which will evaluate water production, reservoir pressure response, gas breakthrough, and subsequent gas flow performance. These tests are key for understanding the reservoir’s trends and the feasibility of sustained gas production.
The testing program is scheduled to begin in October, pending final confirmation and completion of well and surface-facility preparations.

Well details and gas shows
The Venus-2H well reached a total measured depth of 1450 meters and intersected Venus-1 at approximately 927 meters. It contained 445 meters of interpreted net Macalister Lower target coal.
Gas shows were recorded throughout the target coal intervals, ranging from 2.5% to 18% in the original wellbore, 8.8% to 23.8% in the first sidetrack, and 4.5% to 42.3% in the second sidetrack. These readings, while preliminary, indicate the presence of hydrocarbons and are a positive sign for the reservoir’s gas content.
These readings represent hydrocarbons released during drilling, not gas flow rates or indications of future well productivity. It is important to distinguish these initial shows from actual production capabilities, which will be determined through the upcoming testing program.
The testing program will provide the first opportunity to assess production performance through the integrated Venus-2H/Venus-1 well system, evaluating the reservoir’s response and the performance of the integrated horizontal and vertical well configuration. This integrated approach is expected to yield valuable insights into the reservoir’s behavior under production conditions.
Testing will begin with controlled dewatering of the target coal intervals to reduce reservoir pressure and support gas desorption and flow.
