Audi adds affordable S line to Q2 range

Audi South Africa has added a new S line variant to its Q2 lineup, positioning it as the most affordable option within the compact SUV range.
New S line details and pricing
The Q2 S line sits below the Urban Edition and Black Edition in the local catalogue. It is priced at R679,000, compared with R748,280 for the Urban Edition and R770,980 for the Black Edition. All three models share a 1.4‑liter four‑cylinder turbocharged petrol engine (35 TFSI) delivering 110 kW and 250 Nm of torque.
Standard equipment on the S line includes 18‑inch five‑Y‑spoke alloy wheels, Matrix LED headlights with dynamic light sequencing, and LED rear lights with dynamic turn signals. The exterior receives S line‑specific styling cues such as illuminated aluminium door sill trims bearing the S badge and Matt Platinum Grey sideblades.
Inside, the S line offers front sport seats, ambient lighting, deluxe automatic air conditioning, and a three‑spoke multifunction leather steering wheel. Technology features comprise a reversing camera with Park system plus, Audi virtual cockpit, and MMI radio plus with smartphone interface, complemented by an Audi sound system.
How the S line fits the broader Q2 range
The Urban Edition focuses more on comfort and convenience. It adds 18‑inch Graphite Grey alloy wheels, contrasting‑paint bumpers, a panoramic glass sunroof, leather/leatherette upholstery, an electric tailgate and Audi’s comfort key. The Black Edition tops the range with S line bumpers finished in Black Optics, black detailing on the Singleframe grille, sideblades, mirror housings and Audi rings, plus 19‑inch 10‑Y‑spoke black alloy wheels.
All Q2 variants come with a five‑year/100,000 km Audi Freeway Plan, which covers full service and maintenance as standard.
From a market perspective, introducing a lower‑priced S line may help Audi address price‑sensitive buyers while still offering premium features. The move aligns with a broader trend among luxury automakers to broaden their appeal in emerging markets without diluting brand perception.
The new S line’s sport suspension and progressive steering aim to deliver a more engaging driving experience than the base model, though the engine output remains unchanged across the range. This suggests Audi is prioritizing handling upgrades over power increases for this segment.

Overall, the Q2 lineup now presents a clear hierarchy: the S line provides entry‑level pricing with sporty touches, the Urban Edition emphasizes comfort, and the Black Edition delivers a more aggressive aesthetic combined with the same powertrain.
Beyond the visual upgrades, the S line’s sport suspension is tuned to reduce body roll during cornering, giving the vehicle a tighter, more responsive feel on winding roads. Progressive steering complements this by delivering lighter steering effort at low speeds for city manoeuvring while increasing feedback at higher velocities, enhancing driver confidence.
The inclusion of Matrix LED headlights with dynamic light sequencing not only adds a distinctive signature to the front fascia but also improves illumination range and pattern adaptability, automatically adjusting to oncoming traffic and curve geometry. Coupled with LED rear lights featuring dynamic turn signals, the lighting package enhances safety by providing clearer visual cues to other road users.
Interior refinements such as ambient lighting are programmable, allowing occupants to select from a spectrum of hues that match personal preferences or driving conditions. The deluxe automatic air conditioning system maintains cabin temperature more precisely by modulating airflow based on sensor inputs, delivering a consistently comfortable environment.
For connectivity, the MMI radio plus system integrates smartphone functions directly into the infotainment display, supporting voice commands and seamless access to navigation, music, and messaging apps without compromising driver focus. The Audi sound system, calibrated for the compact SUV’s cabin dimensions, ensures balanced audio reproduction across the frequency range.
While the Urban Edition’s comfort‑focused equipment includes a panoramic glass sunroof that floods the interior with natural light, the Black Edition’s black cloth headlining and flat‑bottom sports steering wheel reinforce a sport‑oriented ambience. Light Graphic Format inlays and a ten‑color ambient lighting package further personalize the cabin experience for owners seeking a more bespoke environment.
All three trims benefit from the full Audi Freeway Plan, which not only covers routine maintenance but also includes scheduled inspections, software updates, and parts replacement as needed, reducing long‑term ownership costs and reinforcing Audi’s commitment to service excellence.
